How to remove nail polish from my carpet?

nail varnish on carpet
We know just how terrifying it can be.  One minute you are happily applying nail varnish and the next, the tiny polish bottle is gliding, twisting and turning through the air and depositing its contents across your lovely carpet which all happens in a fraction of a second and your left open mouthed and wondering, how such a small bottle can make such an horrific mess.

If this sounds like something you've experienced, don't worry help is at hand.  This week Ben and Joe were in Newmarket cleaning such a spillage.

Unlike many other cosmetics, nail varnish is almost a twentieth century invention with its composition and manufacturing developments being reflected in modern chemical technology.

Modern nail polish is sold in liquid form in small bottles and is applied with a tiny brush and within a few minutes of applying the liquid hardens and forms a shiny coating on the fingernail.

What is nail polish made from?

There is no single formula in the production of nail polish but the there a few basic components such as film forming agents, resins and plasticizers and colouring agents.

removing nail varnish from carpet- Start by soaking up (very carefully) the blob that sits on the surface. Use a disposable absorbent tissue or cotton wool.

DO NOT SCRUB OR RUB IT

Once you removed the excess you can start by introducing nail varnish remover. Wet a cotton towel (preferably disposable) in nail varnish remover and dab the stain lightly - Letting the diluted nail varnish absorb into the towel.

Once you have removed the bulk of it you might attempt to use a little dropper, to apply small amounts of nail varnish remover on the sport. Apply pressure using a clean cotton towel and absorb it up. Keep turning the cotton towel to use a clean area and keep pouring small amounts of nail varnish remover onto the area. Be careful as large amounts of nail varnish remover will damage the carpet.

Repeat the process until you have soaked it all up.

Finish by applying a small amount of water to the area and place a cotton towel over it. You can now step onto the towel to get it to absorb the water. Repeat 3 - 4 times depending on the size of the nail varnish stain on the carpet. Finally you can use a specialist carpet stain remover - ( avoid using Vanish or 1001 as these products contain bleaches - We recommend our Professional carpet stain remover.
